Woodworking can be a very pleasant hobby and a rewarding one too, if you choose to turn it into a home based business. Regardless if you do it as a hobby or as a business, there are a few safety rules you have to consider while handling all those woodworking tools. Hand woodworking tools, electric tools used in woodworking can be quite dangerous if you do not follow few simple rules that can help you protect yourself from any possible injuries and let you enjoy woodworking every day.
Working with all types of woods and cutting tools can cause small wood chips get all around the workshop, and your eyes are not an exception. That is why you always have to wear safety glasses, in order to protect your eyesight. Most of the power tools, such as the router, can be very noisy and you can use the hearing protection too while working. Another safety accessory is the rubber or the latex gloves, which you can wear when you use glue or you, paint the wood. When you go to your workshop, make sure you wear something comfortable, yet made from a stronger fabric. It is better that you use an overall; it is not too loose on your body as much as it could entangle in one of your power tools. Those are the main safety accessories every woodworker should have. As you well know, many of the power tools used in woodworking have several accessories and blades for performing various functions. Be careful when you want to change the accessory or the blade with a new one. You must disconnect the electricity chord of the power tool, because you do not want the tool to accidentally turn on and seriously injure your hand. Also make sure that the blades of the power tool are sharp enough. The old ones can cause the power tool not to work properly and to kick back or even bind. A sharp cutting tool will produce a good cut and the tool will become safer for you. When you are preparing the power tool for cutting the stock, check before if there are any metal scraps or nails around the stock that could interfere with the spinning blade of the power tool. If any of those objects does interfere with the cutting blade, the stock might move, the cutting head could be damaged or, worse, the metal object might pop up and injure you. After you have proceeded with cutting the stock, it is inevitable that you find cut-offs between the bites of the blade of your table saw or the mitter saw. Never try to remove them with your hands, especially when the blade of the power tool is still functioning! First of all, disconnect the power tool from the electricity, than use a piece of scrap or a stick to clear the bites of the blade. By disconnecting the power chord you can be sure that any malfunction of the switch button can accidentally switch on and injure your hand. One last advice, but not the less important, is that you always pay attention to what you are doing in your workshop. Do not let anything to distract you from your work, because one second is enough to cost your health. Therefore, it is better that you finish the cut to the safe conclusion before you see what is going on. Working with sharp and pointy tools is not something that goes well with chatting or even a few beers. When you are done with your woodworking task, relax and enjoy your final product; your customers will too. People reading this page, are also interested in :
